Task:
a) Generate a list of words or phrases that describe each picture given below.
b) Using these words, write a paragraph to describe the person in each picture.
Picture 1
Fear, shame, guilt, despair, grief, tiredness, regret, austere,
At a glance this bald man seems to be afraid, like how I looked when I was watching Drag Me To Hell yesterday. Honestly, I wouldn’t blame him for covering his eyes. However, there is a high chance that this is not the case as in the picture, a glimpse can be caught of a very expensive suit and a watch. Rich, grown-up men in suits and watches probably do not watch a lot of horror movies. Rich, grown-up men in suits and watches are probably too proud and image-conscious to cover their eyes when watching horror movies despite the fact that they haven’t touched their popcorn lest they throw up and lose their precious face. Rich, grown-up men in suits and watches probably do not even watch horror movies. Thus, I have come to the conclusion that he is hiding his face from something or someone. Perhaps he, too, offended a gypsy and would be dragged to hell in three days’ time and is despairing, though this is a rather uncommon situation. Maybe he had just met with a very unfortunate accident and is hiding from his abhorrent reflection in the execrable invention called the mirror. More likely, he is hiding his face in shame from the world, a result of attrition leading to weariness and being sick of always having to adhere to rules and regulations, resulting in a bout of rather capricious and asinine behaviour. However, looking at his appearance and the style of the picture, I can guess that someone he had not had the time to get to know because of his busy schedule had recently passed away, his son or daughter, perhaps. Maybe he had always played the role of the discipliner, instilling austerity into his children’s lives, and had gotten too caught up in it that he neglected their emotional health. Yes, that’s it.
Picture 2
Fake, anger, advertisement
All words desert me when I look at this man, not because he is handsome, which he is not, but because he looks like he is supposed to be angry but not exactly doing a good job of looking angry. What comes out of it is positively weird. Is that gel on his hair? Oh no, please do not tell me they gelled his hair up to give the impression that he is so angry his hair is standing up. Perhaps this is a toothpaste advertisement, and he is showing off his perfect teeth, or maybe SKII, telling us that screaming gives us wrinkles. Maybe this is a picture used in a study to show that the pupils contract when met with an unappealing sight. Or perhaps, given the lack of bright colours in the picture, it goes to show that bright colours increase to your day affability, congeniality, pizzazz, elan, risibility, verve, delectableness, exuberance, jauntiness, effusiveness, ebullience, jocundity geniality, jocosity, and mirth, which all pretty much mean the same thing. Or maybe he was just annoyed that someone was taking a picture of him and was screaming at the person at the time it was taken.
Picture 3
Fun, freedom, pizzazz, elan, verve, delectableness, exuberance, jauntiness, effusiveness, ebullience, jocundity geniality, mirth
When I first saw this little girl, I thought she was rather patriotic, then I realised this picture probably was not taken in Singapore, and she is probably not Singaporean. When I look at this picture I think to myself, ah, children. I envy children sometimes. Like the little girl in this picture, they are free to express themselves and are not self-incarcerated in their little prisons of what-will-people-think. All they really care about is having fun and when they live life to the fullest, and even when they don’t get the best they will settle for second-best and still have a whale of a time. Take this girl, for example. It’s a hot day and she wants to go for a swim, but the swimming pool is too far away, so she settles for a small fountain and look how much fun she is having!
I'm going to fail this assignment.
